What makes a book a good autumn read?

Pace and warmth. Autumn books tend to be character led rather than plot driven, so you can read twenty pages at a time and still feel held by them.

When should I start my autumn reading list?

Late August or early September, while the evenings are still gentle. Most people buy the books in September and run out of time in October.

How do I make a cosy reading corner at home?

Use the chair you already sit in, add a warm low lamp, keep the blanket on the chair and leave your current book on the arm. Then put your phone in another room for twenty minutes.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman and The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman are the three we hand to almost everyone. All three are warm, funny and easy to fall into on a dark evening.
